Have I got a treat for you!
I love supporting other fellow Rocking Over 40 women. That is why I’m very excited to announce that Rocking Over 40 will be giving away 2 copies of the recently released (and much anticipated) book called “Kissing the Crisis: Field Notes on Foul-Mouthed Babies, Disenchanted Women, & Careening into Middle Age” by Kara Martinez Bachman, a witty and humorous 47-year-old midlife Gen Xer.
I had the opportunity to read this book which is comprised of a series of short stories on everything from love, Brad Pitt, parenting, marriage, and the inevitable intrusion of midlife we all face. There was so much I could relate to, like the moment your kids become more independent and suddenly don’t need you as much, and you start to ponder “what do I do with my life now?” or realizing that the sexiest man alive is that man that is “waiting for you at home. The ones sitting on our couches, grinning like boys because they secretly took the remote control when we got up to pee. They’re the ones cutting the grass, sweaty bellies sticking out from under yellowed t-shirts…and they’re tired from loving us so hard.”
This book had me bursting out in laughter and reminiscing about the innocent days of my own youth. It also served as a source of comfort knowing that there are other like-minded women navigating this stage of life and doing it with a lot of humor and pizzazz. As Kara so eloquently and humorously states: “This is my moment! I am ripe! I am between two poles. One pole is old and diapered and has yellow toenails. The other pole likes to chew gum. But I am only now, at this very second, realizing that I am not suspended in a limbo but am floating in a kind of glory.” Rock on sister!
